Corgi Rescue

"Their stories break your heart, their faces melt your soul, and part of you leaves with them when they are placed in their new homes. But it is an honor to be able to provide a warm shelter, lots of attention and tummy rubs to homeless Corgis until a deserving home can be found for these noble souls." - Heidi Dahlin

RESCUE POLICY. We look for the best possible match for each rescue dog; we do not place rescue dogs on a first-come first-served basis. Our rescue application (available on this website) asks for basic home and family information. When we are ready to place a dog, the applications are reviewed and phone calls made to likely candidates. We require a home visit. We do a "meet and greet" to see if everyone is still interested and, if that goes well, the dog can go home on a two-week trial. If everyone is still happy after that time, the official adoption takes place and the dog becomes the property of the new home. Our adoption fee is $100. If the new owners are, at any time in the future, unable to keep the dog, we require that it be returned to us.

All rescue dogs are checked by a vet and neutered/spayed. We try to find out as much about each dog as possible before placing it, because we want the new home to be successful!

We are fortunate enough to find homes within Oregon and Washington for almost all our rescued corgis. Out-of-area homes are considered only in special circumstances, for dogs we have not been able to place locally. If you are from outside of our area and are looking for a rescue corgi, please refer to the website of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America to locate a club rescue program near you.

For more information about CRPWCC's corgi rescue program, email Corgi Rescue.

NOTE: We do not accept e-mail messages with attached files. Applications must be sent through the U.S. Postal Service

Message from Rescue Chairperson

Thank you for taking the time to visit our rescue website. The fact that you have found your way to our rescue pages means that your heart belongs to the less fortunate Corgis that need your help. Our committee is supported by the Columbia River Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club.

You may assume that people wouldn't pay a good price for a dog and then not want it anymore, however, that's not what happens.  That's why our committee is needed.

We get Corgis in all shapes and sizes, with all different problems. Many of them have been abused or neglected in some way. Most of them (but not all) have behavioral issues that need some type of training, obedience, socialization, or desensitization. Some of the Corgis are over weight and need a diet and a lot of exercise.  We get very few Corgis that come from perfect homes that want to give them up. That's where you come in. We need qualified people to continue with the rescue.

Although well-adjusted Corgis are normally good with children, most of our rescues won't have the patience or confidence to deal with small children or children that are not good with pets.  You should keep this in mind when educating yourself about rescue dogs.  It takes quite a few months before a rescue dog with problems will develop into a great dog.

If you are willing to put your time and your heart into a rescue Corgi, you may be the owner we're looking for.  Please download and print off our rescue application and send it to us.  You will be contacted by one of our committee people so they can get to know you.
